What is the Lynton SmartXide CO2 laser?
SmartXide CO2 offers deep skin resurfacing for the ultimate in non-surgical skin tightening, rejuvenation and renewal of ageing skin without the downtime associated with some other device-led resurfacing treatments. SmartXide CO2 boasts gold-standard technology, combining CO2 laser with radiofrequency (RF) and bipolar radiofrequency (bRFE) to stimulate your body’s own healing response and encourage the production of collagen and elastin, the key components of youthful and healthy-looking skin.
How does the treatment work?
The SmartXide CO2 laser emits pixelated light into your skin, creating small columns of thermal injury to the epidermis and dermis. These tiny injuries stimulate a healing response through collagen remodelling and the ongoing process of elastic tissue formation.

What happens during a treatment with the Lynton SmartXide CO2 laser?
During your treatment, your skin will be cleansed thoroughly, and the device handpiece will be passed across your face, delivering microscopic laser beams that penetrate the skin’s surface. The duration of your treatment will depend on your individual skin condition and the size of the area being treated. However, most treatments take between 20 and 40 minutes without taking into account preparation and aftercare protocols. Therefore, expect to be at the clinic for between an hour and two hours for this treatment.
Am I suitable for a treatment with the Lynton SmartXide CO2 laser?
SmartXide CO2 is suitable for men and women and all skin types and can offer significant improvements in the appearance of the skin. However, before we can agree to carry out the treatment, we will ask that you attend a consultation and skin analysis with one of our practitioners so we can ensure there are no contraindications that could prevent or restrict the treatment from going ahead.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on your individual skin concern, as well as the type of treatment that is chosen for you. SmartXide CO2 offers two treatment ‘strengths’: a ‘soft’ laser peel and a ‘deep’ laser peel. The deeper peel delivers the most significant improvements, combatting lines, wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. This treatment requires fewer treatments than the soft peel. However, the downtime can last longer. Typically, most patients experience excellent results after just one treatment with the deep laser peel, though some opt to repeat the treatment after six months to maintain their results. The milder soft peel may require a course of several treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart for similar results.
Are there any side effects?
In general, side effects are rare, but as with any intensive laser treatment, there may be some ‘cosmetic’ downtime, so you may choose to take a few days off work afterwards. Side effects can include small superficial blisters, which can take up to two weeks to heal completely, a sensation similar to sunburn on the skin, mild swelling, particularly around the eyes and the appearance of a bronze ‘micro-crust’ on the skin. Some patients can experience temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, but this is usually temporary and will fade in the months after your treatment. Your practitioner will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions and will advise you on a high-factor SPF to wear every day. It is also best not to wear makeup for a few days after this treatment.
What results can I expect from a treatment using the SmartXide CO2 device?
In only a few days, you may notice that your skin looks and feels smoother, allowing any side effects to subside. Over time, as the collagen formation process develops and the skin tissues regain elasticity, you should see significant improvements in the tone, texture, and hydration of your skin.
